To ensure that each lot of KALEN Human HDL has the same high quality, Kalen has implemented rigorous manufacturing protocols and stringent QC tests. The results depicted in the figure to the left demonstrate the consistency of KALEN Human HDL as determined by Relative Electrophoretic Mobility (REM). As shown, the variation in REM was minimal for the nine preparations tested.

Reproducibility of KALEN Human HDL

REM is calculated based on the migration of
HDL compared with an LDL reference.
Results are plotted as a percentage of the mean.

HDL Spotlight

High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) is commonly referred to as “good cholesterol” due to its connection with the prevention of heart disease. HDL acts as a reverse carrier of cholesterol, i.e, it mediates the transportation of cholesterol from the blood vessels to the liver for subsequent elimination.

HDL particles are comprised of apolipoproteins and lipids including cholesterol, cholesterol esters, triglycerides, and phospholipids. Of the subclasses of HDL that have been identified, differences have been noted in the functionality of HDL2 and HDL3.

Classification Density
(g/mL)
HDL 1.063 – 1.210
HDL2 1.063 – 1.125
HDL3 1.125 – 1.210
